Match report for 18/4/07 against Southmead

The weather once again was glorious and bright on this spring midweek evening for The Fry Club B Girls to play host to Southmead.

Southmead had an uphill battle right from the start due to them turning up with two players short! The Fry Club Girls almost had too much space and started in rather a confused state as Southmead put all but one player behind the ball and to their credit played some strong football for the first 5 minutes.

The Fry's Girls made heavy work of breaking Southmead down until Alice to her credit could stand no more and pushed out from the Fry's defence to try and get the midfield settled and passing. This worked immediately, and Emma put the Fry Club Girls in front. Emily Dean was then substituted for Steph at the back. Amy then got away on the left to make the score 2-0 to the Fry Club Girls.

The Fry Girls were now in control, bar the odd long ball to the Southmead lone striker. The passing was by now flowing and great to watch from the Fry Girls, which resulted in Amy scoring her second and put the score at 3-0 to Fry's.

Southmead defended valiantly to hold the score at 3-0 as the whistle blew for half time.

Within minutes of the second half starting Emma scored again to put Fry's 4-0 in front. With the passing now flowing for the Fry girls Emma grabbed her hat trick with another great goal putting the score 5-0 to the Fry Club Girls.

Southmead still refused to give in and got away a couple of times but didn't trouble Charlotte in the Fry's goal. Emily Tite made way for Sophie to come on for Fry's in the left of midfield. This change lifted the Fry Club Girls, just as it looked like the game would go flat with the result far out of reach of Southmead. Sophie tore up and down the left flank and provided loads of chances for further Fry Club goals, and even a couple of half chances for herself. Southmead tried in vain to get out and grab a consolation goal but failed thanks mainly to Sophie getting back to defend and then getting the Fry Girls straight back on the counter attack!

Emily Dean returned at left back for Fry's in a swap for Alice, to ensure that Southmead didn't catch Fry's too pushed up the pitch. The chances for further Fry goals seemed to come every couple of minutes now but Danni by her own admission missed a couple of sitters! It just seemed that no mater what Fry's did they weren't going to score any more goals as the game was now at the stage where all of the Fry Girls from the midfield and forwards were taking it in turn to have a shot!

The last changes were made with around 5 minutes left to play Amy was changed for Alice up front and Steph was changed for Emily Tite.

Due to some great goal keeping and never say die defending Southmead held the score at 5-0 to the Fry Club girls, for another 3 vital points.

This games player of the match was awarded to Sophie as even though she was only on for around 25 minutes she was truly outstanding! Well done Sophie.
